What is the Best Layout for an Outdoor Kitchen?

It’s so important to think about the dimensions and geometry of your terrace when you’re designing an outdoor kitchen. Your terrace is limited by a few simple things, like the way it’s laid out, how big it is and what it can hold, how steep the slope is, any obstacles in the way and how uneven it is.

Outdoor kitchens on terraces are usually linear or L-shaped, which is great because it means you can fit a lot in a small space! Some larger terraces can even accommodate a U-shaped layout or include an outdoor kitchen island with a bar, an extended counter and stools around it to create a more sociable space where you can enjoy a drink with your friends!

Outdoor Kitchen Design Ideas

It’s not uncommon for the terrace where the outdoor kitchen is installed to already have a built-in water or drainage point that can’t be moved. In this case, we’ll just need to make a few tweaks to the design of the outdoor kitchen to fit this installation.

When it comes to quality outdoor kitchen furniture, stainless steel is always the way to go! It’s designed to withstand whatever weather comes its way, whether it’s rain, cold, heat, UV rays, or anything else.

We’ve all been there! When it comes to installing on a terrace, there are so many little hiccups that can pop up along the way. But don’t fret! One of the best solutions out there is to lay a floating engineered floor or floating porcelain floor. The great thing about this type of floor is that you can install it underneath without having to modify the terrace drainage slopes.

We designed outdoor kitchens with your ideas in mind! They’re perfect for installation on floating technical floors or floating ceramic tiles.

Customize your Outdoor Kitchen

If you love the look of stainless steel outdoor kitchens, you’ve come to the right place! At Festoc, we’re specialists in all things stainless steel. We’ve got a wide range of all-stainless steel barbecues and outdoor kitchens for you to choose from. You’ve got the choice of AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, and you can choose between satin-polished or mirror-polished finishes.

Or, if you’d prefer a ceramic finish, we have over 100 different options for you to choose from! You can use them to cover the furniture and worktop of your outdoor kitchen.

Where Is the Best Place to Install an Outdoor Kitchen?

A little shaded area on your terrace or in your garden is a great way to enjoy summer in a cooler spot, or simply to find shelter from rainy days. That’s why we think it’s a great idea to place your outdoor kitchen under a porch or a pergola!  If you don’t have any of these three elements, no problem! We recommend placing the outdoor kitchen in the north-facing part of the house, which will give you the most shade.

Are Outdoor Dishwashers Worth It? Best Options Explained

In another blog, we’ll go into more detail about the different locations for your outdoor kitchen, so you can make the most of your space and enjoy your outdoor kitchen to the fullest! But, if you don’t have a covered space in your home, you need to make sure that your outdoor kitchen will be able to withstand different weather conditions.

For instance, if you want to install an outdoor dishwasher, there is no brand in Europe that makes them specifically for outdoors, so you’ll need to install an indoor dishwasher.

Just a heads-up! This equipment isn’t designed to withstand environmental changes such as rain, UV rays, high summer temperatures, etc.

We just wanted to give you a heads-up that if you place it outside, even if it’s covered, it will automatically lose its warranty. That’s why here at Fesfoc we only use appliances that are guaranteed to withstand the elements all year round, even if your kitchen isn’t covered.

What Is the Best Worktop Surface for an Outdoor Kitchen?

Outdoor kitchens are a great addition to any property and a wonderful investment!

When it comes to designing an outdoor kitchen, choosing the right materials is really important.

We know how important it is for your outdoor kitchen to be made with the best materials, so we’ve sourced the very best for you. These high-quality components will ensure that all the parts work perfectly and are built to last.

Best Materials for Outdoor Kitchens

If you’re looking for the best materials for outdoor use, look no further than AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel! These are the most recommended, resistant and durable materials for outdoor use, especially if you’re in a sea area (which we define as less than 5 km from the sea). Another fantastic option is porcelain surfaces!

Materials not recommended for outdoor kitchens

We totally don’t recommend using wood for an outdoor kitchen  as it requires a lot of maintenance. Wood already suffers a lot of wear and tear simply from UV rays, so it’s probably best to avoid it. On top of that, rain and humidity can really damage it.

Aluminium Outdoor Kitchens

We’re sorry to say that aluminum isn’t the best choice for you. It has a very low resistance compared to stainless steel, and it can rust. It’s important to remember that oxidized aluminum isn’t hygienic, so it can contaminate food.

Have you ever noticed that the outdoor kitchens of professional restaurants are made of stainless steel? It’s a great choice because it’s very easy to clean, doesn’t contaminate food and retains its aesthetic appeal over time.

Plastic Kitchen Furniture

We just wanted to give you a heads-up that we don’t recommend using plastic materials like HPDE, PVC, polypropylene, or HPL for outdoor kitchens. They’re not as durable as other materials and can get worn out pretty easily due to UV rays.

On top of that, heat, cold and humidity can affect the molecular structure of these materials, which can cause them to crack and become dull over time. This can reduce their structural strength.

Should You Build Your Own Outdoor Kitchen or Hire a Professional?

We are sorry to say that microcement, concrete and reinforced concrete aren’t the best choices for constructing an outdoor kitchen, as they are highly porous. When you first use them, they can easily get stained by things like tomato, oil, wine, and grease. Unfortunately, this stain can’t be removed.

Even if you put a layer of varnish on top, it’ll lose its properties over time and eventually stain. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something economical, but if you want something that doesn’t require maintenance over time and looks good, it might not be the best choice for you.

Is a Marble Worktop Suitable for an Outdoor Kitchen?

In addition, real marble is not recommended for outdoor kitchens, as it is composed of calcium carbonate and is highly porous. Calcium carbonate reacts with products such as Coca Cola, wine, tomatoes… and can become stained.

It’s worth noting that while this product has a protective layer, it’s only temporary. And, of course, when it’s placed outdoors, that layer doesn’t last as long. One of the first things that can damage the protective layer in real stones is the sun’s UV rays. That’s why it’s best to use synthetic stones that mimic marble. They have an identical finish and don’t present the problem of stains, so you can enjoy your beautiful marble look without any worries!
